Imaginary Biking

What Is Imaginary Biking?

Some years ago, I stumbled upon Walk to Rivendell, a site that enables you to track your walking/biking/swimming/jazzercise progress against the journey of the hobbits in Lord of the Rings. So I did that for a while, off and on, because when it comes to exercise I'm an off and on sort of person. Eventually I hit a boring patch, and decided to use Google Map Pedometer to track my progress against real-world roads and distances. In my case, I'm going from the northern tip of Japan's main island to the southern end. Or, as I said in one of my livejournal entries, "Imaginary Biking is where you do real biking, but you pretend you're actually getting somewhere."

Please visit my livejournal entries for more detail about the attractions and charms of the cities I pass through in my imagination. Maybe if I get to the southern tip of Honshu, I'll actually go to Japan and visit some of these places!
